Information About Vital Visuals
Because we make our own video we can provide a unique visual show. Every time we perform the audience gets a one off custom mix from our bank of thousands of clips. This means we can fit our performance to any kind of genre and even match the content to the themes of individual songs on the fly while working with live acts on stage. So the audience gets a video show that looks professional every time.
We have 5 years experience in live video mixing and audio visual performance. And 15 years of experience with lens based media. Our service includes the full works. We believe that the dark ages of club music will give way to a bright new audio visual future. Every event will soon have visuals. History... Vital Visuals started 5 years ago when Tom started playing around with a Kodak Slide Projector. \"I printed 80 35mm transparency shaped images onto Acetate then registered two layers and mounted them into slides. I had made my first projection! We used this quite a few times for our dub reggae night called High Pressure. I had already been making Flyers for High Pressure using photoshop for a while but this project had me hooked on the idea of using projected images in sequence. This allowed so much more scope for visual communication. At the next opportunity college allowed I branched out into video. I was hell bent on making visuals that would make people think. Environmental propaganda really. I produced a dvd that I used for a few nights with great success. Since I left the Leeds College of Art I have become quite proficient at using After Effects for animation. I also started VJing properly. One of my first proper gigs was in the back room the West Indian Centre at Subdub. This was before I hacked my computer to allow dual screen so I had to map all of my samples to midi and keys. I kept a list of all the samples and did the entire gig without seeing the interface. Although that was not ideal it did get me hooked on the use of keys rather than the mouse as this means you can play the visuals almost like some sort of crazy instrument. We have worked continually on our collection of videos since. Trying to create an eye catching style of work that fits in time with the tune, and the Dj. Now, using 2 midi devices, we are able to exert almost complete live control of our videos. We are currently working on improving our audio visual reggae set. Watch this space!\" We now use a Powermac G5 in flight case with 2 midi devices which allows us to use very high resolutions and attain extremely high reactivity.
